New traffic rules have been effective from the first of August 2019. Certain rules regarding the required driving licence for driving a scooter/motorcycle have been changed. It is important to be aware of these changes if you want to rent a scooter or motorcycle. Otherwise you will risk of not being insured in case of an accident. Furthermore, the usage of a helmet is now required by law.

Are you the holder of a valid car driving licence (Category B on European Models)? Than you are only allowed to drive a 50cc scooter. Be aware that several rental companies rent scooters with more than 50cc (for example 90cc or 125cc) to people with just a car driving licence. Make sure for yourself that the rented scooter is not more than 50cc. Otherwise the police might pull you over and give you a fine. Furthermore, you will not be insured in case in an accident. The insurance company other party might deny your claim, even if you are not the liable party of the accident. Avoid these risks and only rent a scooter with more than 50cc if you are the holder of a valid motorcycle driving licence.

Scooters Bonaire rent 50cc and 125cc scooters/motorcycles. In order to avoid confusion do we refer to a 50cc engine as a scooter and a 125cc one as a motorcycle. We are very strict at Scooters Bonaire, you can only rent a 125cc motorcycle if you can show a valid motorcycle driving licence in our shop.
